SRM IS OPEN FOR MASTER THESIS WORK

Master Thesis Project

Svenska Rotor Maskiner (SRM)  Nacka, Stockholm County, Sweden

About SRM

Svenska Rotor Maskiner (SRM), founded in 1908, is a global high-tech company leading the innovation and development of compressors and pumps for different working media such as refrigerants, raw biogas, industrial air, and hydrogen. We offer a wide range of service areas, applications, and products, all with our unique rotor technology as its core. Our mission is to be the front-edge developer of screw compressors, expanders, and screw pumps for all different kinds of use, based on our patented rotor machine technology. Over time SRM has developed many types of technologies and applications to proceed toward high-efficiency machinery with low environmental impact. Our strategy is to maintain our position as a leading global technology innovator combined with our unique production and laboratory capacity.

About the job

Rotary screw compressors, the positive-displacement compressor type, are widely used in different industries such as refrigeration cycles, food, oil and gas, chemical process, and pharmaceutical. This type of compressor comprises a major share of the positive displacement compressor market. However, numerical simulation performed on these machines is rather limited in the literature due to the complexity of geometry and mesh generation. In recent years, the development of mesh generation in CFD commercial software paved the road towards performing numerical simulation on positive-displacement compressors.

The purpose of this master thesis is to perform numerical simulation on a screw compressor that has been designed, manufactured, and experimentally investigated at SRM. Commercial software, e.g., Ansys Forte or CFX will be used to perform numerical simulations. One of the main objectives is to establish a methodology in commercial software to perform CFD simulations and validate them against the experimental results available at SRM. This will be a continuation of the previous master’s thesis work performed at SRM. Later, the effect of different design parameters, e.g., port size, wrap angle, L/D, could be investigated.

In addition, a final presentation of the master thesis will be presented at SRM.

Your education and profile

Master’s student in mechanical engineering or similar subjects with fluid mechanics and CFD courses. Experience in CAD software, e.g., Creo Parametric, is an advantage.

Start date: 2023, week 2-5

Estimated time: 20 weeks, full time 40 h/week

Remuneration: yes

Location: Preferably at SRM (Nacka, Stockholm) or Luleå Tekniska Universitet.

Application

Please enclose your personal letter, CV, and list of grades. Interviews will be held continuously, and the opening is valid until the announcement is withdrawn.
